Treatment That Works For You
Medical Assessment
At CuraWest we believe in a comprehensive, integrated and highly individualized approach to addiction recovery. Upon admission, we conduct in-depth clinical and medical assessments for each individual client, which allows us the opportunity to thoroughly understand their specific clinical needs and requirements. Our assessment process is extremely involved, and is conducted by our team of licensed medical professionals, therapists and case managers. Once the assessments are completed we set to work developing a personalized treatment plan, one that adequately addresses the unique needs and requirements of each individual client. The personalized plan will take history of substance abuse in account, as well as family history, and existing medical conditions and any existing mental health disorders. Individualized treatment plans will be adjusted accordingly as a client transitions from medical detox into the residential portion of our clinical program.
Our personalized clinical and medical assessment process is composed of four distinct evaluations, including a medical evaluation, psychosocial evaluation, a physical evaluation and a psychological evaluation. As soon as a client arrives at our private, homestyle treatment facility, they will sit down with our clinical team and undergoes the in-depth assessment. Once the assessment is complete the client has the opportunity to get settled into his or her private suite and either relax or take advantage of the multitude of amenities we offer.
In-Depth Medical Evaluation
Active addiction takes a serious and lasting toll on the physical body. Upon admission to our Denver, Colorado treatment center, we conduct an in-depth medical assessment geared towards identifying all of the physical issues that the client is currently suffering from. We take all aspects of a client’s health into careful consideration before developing a viable treatment plan, which will not only address the addiction itself but any underlying health-related concerns as well.

During the assessment of the client’s medical history we look at:
- Physical issues like chronic illness, past surgical procedures and any significant injuries
- Any significant allergies, which could come into play during Medication Assisted Treatment if not thoroughly addressed
- Any medications that the client is currently on or that the client has been prescribed in the past
- Family medical history
- Any diagnosed psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or insomnia
The in-depth medical evaluation helps us determine which detox methods will be the most clinically appropriate, and which physical areas the individual client will need more attention on. For example, if a client is experiencing chronic pain we will introduce him or her to alternative methods of pain reduction (alternative to narcotic pain medications), like physical therapy and yoga. If a client was previously taking medication for a depressive disorder, he or she will undergo an in-depth psychological assessment with one of our licensed, on-site psychiatrists. As always, individualized care remains a cornerstone of our overall addiction recovery program.
Psychosocial Evaluation
Once the medical assessment is complete, the client moves onto the psychosocial evaluation. During this phase of the evaluation process our medical team learns about the psychosocial and social factors that may have played a role in the development of the substance abuse disorder. At CuraWest we utilize the psychosocial evaluation model to gain invaluable insight regarding the numerous factors that contribute to the initial development of the addiction – all the way from childhood up until the present day.
Our Drug & Alcohol Detox Services Include
The psychosocial evaluation helps our clinical and therapeutic team determine how the client perceives him or herself, and delves into how he or she functions within the community at large. We take into account the mood and affect of the client upon his or her admission, how effectively the client seems to be functioning on a social level, what coping mechanisms the client currently has in place, the current living status of the client and whether or not the client has a reasonable support system in place.
Diving into these aspects of a client’s life allows our team to determine how certain behavioral patterns initially developed while further constructing a personalized and effective treatment plan.
Physical Evaluation
Next, the client will move on to the physical evaluation. Basic vitals are taken, such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, current weight and more. Of course, withdrawal symptoms are also closely monitored. We also conduct thorough drug and alcohol screenings to determine which substances are currently in the client’s bloodstream. Knowing which chemical substances are still in the bloodstream allows us to predict the intensity of withdrawal symptoms and treat them before they result in serious, health-related complications.
An in-depth physical evaluation takes place upon admission, and ongoing physical assessments take place throughout the duration of the client’s stay in medical detox. Our main priority at CuraWest is providing our clients with a safe, comfortable and comfortable withdrawal process and a smooth transition into the next appropriate level of care.

Psychological Evaluation
More often than not, substance abuse and dependence are closely linked to undiagnosed and/or untreated mental health disorders. At CuraWest we offer an in-depth psychological evaluation for clients who have an existing mental health condition or who are showing symptoms of what could be a potential mental health condition. Our clinical team includes licensed psychotherapists and psychiatrists, who will evaluate the mental state of each individual client and prescribe ant-psychotic medication if deemed necessary. Interestingly enough, symptoms of withdrawal – from varying chemical substances – almost always include psychological issues, ranging from intense anxiety and persistent panic attacks to depression and suicidal ideation. It is often necessary for anti-psychotic medications to be prescribed short-term for the treatment of said symptoms until the withdrawal process comes to a close.
Here at CuraWest we believe in the clinical benefits of Medication Assisted Treatment, whether that be medications like Suboxone (which helps to alleviate the symptoms associated with opiate withdrawal) or non-narcotic antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications or sleeping aids. Another significant symptom of withdrawal is insomnia and other sleep-related disorders. We understand how vital rest and relaxation are to the overall detoxification process, and our team of prescribing physicians and medical advisors often prescribes medications to help facilitate sleep.
The First Step on the Road to Recovery
Medical detox is the first step on the lifelong road to recovery, and an in-depth clinical and medical assessment is the first step of the medical detox process. In order to ensure that we are providing each client with the individualized and comprehensive care that he or she deserves, we will closely examine every aspect of his or her life – from pre-existing medical conditions to economic background. Addiction is a complicated disease, one that varies immensely on a person-to-person basis. Because no two cases of addiction are the same, no two treatment plans should be identical. At CuraWest we put the individual first.
