Our Approach
Active addiction affects all areas of life, from physical and mental health to interpersonal relationships, financial and job security, and spiritual connectedness. After an extended battle with addiction, you have likely lost touch with who you are and what you want out of life. Goals you once held in high esteem have been discarded, and all of your energy is spent on obtaining, using, and recovering from your substance of choice. At CuraWest we understand how hopeless the battle with addiction can feel. We also know that in order to fully recover, all implications of active addiction must be adequately addressed. We have developed an integrated, multi-staged treatment program that focuses on the mind, body, and spirit. We offer effective medical detox services in Denver, Colorado, coupled with a residential treatment program that lays a solid foundation for continued success in sobriety. No matter how dejected and demoralized you currently feel, making a complete recovery is always possible. If you are ready to overcome addiction and reclaim your life, reach out to us today. We are here to help in any way that we can.
A Multi-Staged, Integrated Approach to Recovery
At CuraWest we take a multi-staged approach to recovery, providing clients with a safe, comfortable detox and a smooth transition into residential treatment. Each level of care is provided in the same homestyle retreat facility, located in the heart of Denver, Colorado. Not only is the Denver area rich in recovery-related services and resources, but the beautiful natural environment is conducive to comprehensive healing. We incorporate many of the recreational opportunities Denver has to offer into our curriculum of care, allowing clients the chance to play and explore as they learn how to have fun and build healthy, functional friendships in sobriety.
What do we mean by an “integrated” approach to addiction recovery? At CuraWest, we focus on healing the mind, body, and spirit simultaneously. We take a “whole person” approach — rather than focus the majority of our attention on therapeutic care, we combine proven therapies with holistic treatment methods, peer support groups, and ongoing spiritual development. Our goal is to provide each individual client with the resources they need to successfully rebuild their lives, while settling into a new sober lifestyle and discovering peace, joy, and fulfillment. If you or someone close to you has been suffering from a drug or alcohol addiction of any kind, we are available to help. Contact us today to learn more about our integrated treatment program in Denver, Colorado or to get started on your own personal journey of addiction recovery.
Two Effective Levels of Clinical Care
Each individual will progress through addiction treatment at a different rate. A person who has been struggling with a mild substance use disorder and no underlying conditions might benefit from a one-week stay in inpatient treatment, whereas a person who has been suffering from a severe addiction and a diagnosed mental illness might benefit more from a three-week stay. What has been repeatedly proven, however, is that positive treatment outcomes are entirely contingent upon adequate treatment length. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse and Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment: A Research-Based Guide (Third Edition), “Generally, for residential or outpatient treatment, participation for less than 90 days is of limited effectiveness, and treatment lasting significantly longer is recommended for maintaining positive outcomes.” If a client chooses to take advantage of both levels of care we provide and if they closely follow their personalized plan for continuing care, they will be engaged in treatment for well over 90 days. Benefits of completing our full program include:
- Reducing the risk of relapse significantly by immediately transitioning from medical detox into residential inpatient treatment.
- The ability to continue working with the assigned case manager and individual therapist, which allows for a more thorough processing of underlying issues and contributing factors.
- Continued medical treatment of post-acute withdrawal symptoms if they should arise, and around-the-clock access to professional medical care during every stage of the treatment process.
- Improved treatment outcomes based on the length of time spent in treatment and the ongoing development of relapse prevention techniques.
In many instances, a person will complete medical detox at one facility and transition into a different facility once they have been physically stabilized. Motivation can be lost during this transition, and a fair amount of individuals never make it to the next appropriate level of care. At CuraWest we have successfully eliminated this risk. Clients have access to the support they need during the most vulnerable time in their journeys of recovery. Contact us today to learn more about the level of care we offer and how to get started.

Two Effective Levels of Clinical Care
At CuraWest we take a comprehensive approach to addiction recovery, focusing on mental, emotional, and spiritual health while effectively treating the physical consequences of substance use. Recovery is about much more than physical stabilization and 12 Step program involvement. Healing takes time, and reacclimating to life as a sober individual is rarely an easy or straightforward process. However, with the right set of skills and tools in place, the transition from treatment back into independent living can be smooth, stress-free, and rewarding.
Medical Detox
The majority of our clients choose to begin their personal journeys of addiction recovery with a short stay in our inpatient detox center. Here, they undergo a comfortable drug or alcohol withdrawal under the close care of a team of medical professionals. If medication is necessary, it will be carefully administered by a staff member — however, we believe medication is only a small piece of the puzzle, and it is not beneficial or necessary for everyone. In addition to access to certain medications and around-the-clock medical care, clients begin the process of mental and emotional healing in individual and group therapy sessions. They are encouraged to participate in addiction education workshops, where they learn about the development of addiction and how to keep the condition in remission. They are introduced to the 12 Step model of Alcoholics Anonymous, and if the 12 Steps do not resonate with them personally, they have the opportunity to explore additional options. Each client undergoes a detailed clinical and medical assessment upon admission to detox, which helps their treatment team develop a unique treatment and aftercare plan.
Our Drug & Alcohol Detox Services Include
Therapeutic Care
At CuraWest we believe therapeutic care is a fundamental component of every stage of the treatment process, from medical detox through aftercare. Our therapeutic staff is composed of licensed and highly esteemed professionals from the Denver area, all with ample hands-on experience in the fields of substance use and mental health. Some of our therapeutic staff members specialize in trauma resolution, and all are trained in a range of proven techniques. Some of the therapies we employ in an individual and group setting include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and more. Family therapy is also available during the residential portion of our program.
Family Involvement
We encourage the family members of our clients to stay as engaged in treatment planning and execution as they would like to be. Because addiction deeply affects everyone involved, it is important for the loved ones of our clients to do healing of their own. In addition to offering family therapy sessions, we facilitate family workshops on the weekends. Restoring healthy family dynamics while strengthening familial relationships leads to improved treatment outcomes, and provides clients with a safe and structured environment to return home to once treatment comes to an end.

Holistic Treatment Options
At CuraWest we focus on holistic care, providing clients with a range of opportunities to heal the mind, body, and spirit simultaneously. We offer reiki, yoga therapy, and mindfulness meditation workshops. Two of our staff members are currently certified in reiki, and clients are encouraged to learn about alternative methods of spiritual healing and development as they move through residential treatment. We also take advantage of the beautiful natural scenery and numerous outdoor attractions the Denver area has to offer. Residential clients have the opportunity to participate in Horticulture Therapy at the Botanical Gardens of Denver, and take part in recreational group outings to awe-inspiring settings like the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
The 12 Steps & Other Peer Support Groups
While the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous is extremely beneficial for many who have committed to a life of sobriety, “the program” is not for everyone. At CuraWest we believe in the importance of peer support throughout the addiction recovery process. Because addiction can be so isolating, developing a network of like-minded individuals to confide in and relate to helps facilitate the healing process and provides an essential level of accountability. However, we understand that certain components of Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12 Step programs might not appeal to everyone. We help clients explore alternative options (including SMART Recovery and Dharma/Refuge Recovery), ultimately finding a path to continued sobriety that feels comfortable.
Continuing Care
While medical detox and inpatient treatment are fundamental stages of the recovery process, it is important for each client to continue with some degree of treatment after leaving inpatient. This might look like entering into a step-down program — an intensive outpatient or outpatient program, for example. It might look like continuing with individual and family therapy and meeting with a psychiatrist once a month while staying engaged in a 12 Step program. Your continuing care plan will be molded around your needs, and it will be adjusted accordingly as you continue to make progress in treatment.
